Just after noon the Turkish artillery attack at Lone Pine ends but the assault on the Australian trenches is cancelled.
German commander, Liman von Sanders, has become aware of probable Allied withdrawal.

Snow and rain continues. Most allied trenches in front line positions are flooded and orders are given for troops to move back.
With the intense cold military activity reduces and the day is largely quiet. However men still died as they drowned in their trenches or from exposure to the cold. The battlefield was turned to mud, and in the running waters of the flood hundreds of bodies that had been previously buried were uncovered.

The rain continues throughout the day. As evening falls the rain turns to snow and it is very cold.

A British shell lands in the trenches of the Inniskilling Fusiliers killing two men.
Allied submarine E11 attacks Erdek harbor and sinks one ship, damages another.
In the evening a storm with heavy and persistent rain begins. Trenches begin to flood and communication lines at Suvla are damaged.

Inniskilling Fusiliers are so short of men that they are reinforced with 100 men from the King’s Own Scottish Borders.
Orders are issued for artillery units in the ANZAC zone to stop firing for 48 hours. This is part of the preparation for the evacuation of the area.

After his tour of Gallipoli Kitchener recommends evacuation of Anzac and Suvla, with the allies retreating to Helles so that they remain in control of the naval routes.
